FERC Chair Seeks Talks To Align State Climate Policies, Power Markets

Acting Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Cheryl LaFleur is pushing for a negotiated solution among grid regulators and states to better align competitive wholesale energy markets and state efforts to procure or maintain zero-carbon resources for climate or other policy reasons. But she is also identifying other more dangerous pathways should negotiations fail, warning that litigation would be a “fragmented, iterative” and “very slow” means of resolving “complex market problems.” Even worse, LaFleur fears “unplanned” re-regulation of the markets...
